The past few months I've been very busy working on a documentary film series about the Battle of Berlin. Looks like there's a bit of a controversial development in Czechia this week regarding the statue of Soviet Marshal Ivan Konev, who commanded the 1st Ukrainian Front during the battle, and then in the last days of the war in Czechia. In another example of the ongoing public debate about the removal of statues and memorials, his statue in Prague has been removed by Czech authorities. Since its removal, the Czech embassy in Moscow has been attacked, and an unkown party placed a bust of Stalin wearing a mask where Konev had stood - someone's response to the explanation that Konev's likeness was toppled because he wasn't wearing a mask in accordance with Covid-19 precautions. The statue had been vandalized in the past.
